Who Are You Going to Trust?- GM55
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
In the infamous words of Aladdin in Disney's movie of the same name, "Do you trust me?"
Jasmine's reaction is a very uncertain "yes," and that pretty much sums up this week's discussion in the Grey Matters podcast. Whether you're venturing into a chat room or listening to this podcast religiously (we certainly hope you are!) or connecting with your business customers, trust these days is at the heart of every interaction we have.
And it's no wonder. According to Edelman's Trust Barometer (polling respondents in 28 countries), we have been in a trust bankruptcy of late which has thrown the world for a loop. Who can you trust? Who should you trust? And, more to the point, who are you trusting - or mistrusting - right now?
In this episode, Steve and Rachel chat about:
- the shiny new penny that is Clubhouse on iOS devices
- how audio/voice is ushering us all into a new frontier of trust
- ways we as business professionals can make the most of today's trust deficiencies
It's a great episode. You can take our word for it.

Be Cautious with the Gig Economy - GM54
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
Thursday Feb 11, 2021
What's the difference between the "gig economy" and having a "side hustle?" We define these two aspects of Work 2.0 in this episode of Grey Matters.
It's easy to confuse phrases we hear today describing work that isn't mainstream or full-time. We hear about the "gig economy" (on-demand talent and skill) and the "side hustle" (work geared for upward growth), and both sound appealing when we're faced with unemployment or underemployment.
- Is either a gig or a side hustle a viable solution for a work force that is being aged out of mainstream employment?
- The marketplace's view of older professionals and skilled workers has skewed to realm of being expendable, regardless of years of experience we offer.
- Stepping into a side gig or hustle isn't as easy as flipping a switch. Networking, personal branding, and even marketing can mean either success or squandered effort.
- What is required of us if we anticipate needing to try a gig or side hustle?

Transparency and Trust - GM48
Monday Jul 13, 2020
Monday Jul 13, 2020
The one thing I struggle with to this day in the online marketing world is the sales process. The techniques which we can and do use to sell our products or services.
So much research has gone into "crafting the perfect offer". In some cases, online marketers spend more time on the sales pitch that they do on the product they are selling, and that offends me.
I have thin skin when it comes to online ethics.
This week I break down our current project as wee are preparing to take the sales offer to the public. I look behind the scenes at a product launch and the decision-making process we are going through to best strike a balance between effective and manipulative sales.

Monday Jul 06, 2020
Facebook, for all its flaws, has become an almost universal meeting place. For online businesses, there is no better place to try and create awareness, conversations, build relationships and form communities.
I just wish Facebook was a better partner!
Bella Vasta knows how to build effective communities in Facebook, uses communities to grow her own community and teacher others (like us) to do as well.

The Talk - Grey Matters 46
I did not really want to record this episode, and to be perfectly honest, I have reservations about posting it.
But all of us must take time to search inward if we are ever going to be a part of the change we desire for our world.
