Failing Forward - GM30

Baby Boomers have been trained from the time they were born to fight failure. As children we were punished, sometimes severely for failing, it has been anathema to our generation.

Failing is not such a bad thing in many Millenials opinion.

"If you aren't failing you aren't trying"

They believe we learn from failure and it is a natural part of our journey. Even to the pont of encouraging each other to embrace failure as a step forward, a positive outcome, necessary to reach our goals.

Heady stuff! And for many of my generation, passing strange.

But there is wisdom here, real value, I am entranced by the concept of "Failing Forward"

Leaning into your Strengths - GM29

 

We have all been in business long enough to know that we are good at some things and not good at others. But there seems to be a “badge of honor” amongst entrepreneurs that we do it all ourselves.

While that might salve the ego, in practice it is a bad idea!

 

I know that one of my challenges is shared by many entrepreneurs, a reluctance to delegate tasks that can easily be accomplished by others.

This may be one of the biggest roadblocks to success.

Adding outsourced talent to your team, in the form of Virtual Assistants, or contractors will free the principal up to do the things that only they can do, if they actually let go of some control.

 

Trusting team members to take tasks off your plate will make a marked difference in not just your profitability, but your energy.

CNN posted a great debate between a Boomer and a Millennial:

 

"OK Boomer" started on the platform Tik Tok and exploded into the meme of the moment. Turns out young people trying to launch into a gig economy with little job security on a rapidly warming planet, with far less opportunity for the wealth and creature comforts that their parents and grandparents enjoyed (A car? A house? Ha!) don't want to be lectured by Baby Boomers, the generation who put them into this kind of shape.

"When the pensions and public health-care systems that Canadians rely on today were first put in place in the 1960s, the life expectancy of a man was 69 years, just four years after he was likely to retire.
